Το Οικονομικό Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών υποδέχτηκε τους πρώτους φοιτητές της νέας εκατονταετίας του | ALUMNI AUEBThe Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), further emphasizing on its international cooperation agreements and internationalization plan, proceeds with an agreement to establish a procedure, for the joint supervision of doctoral studies, between the Department of Statistics (Statistics) of the Athens University of Economics and Business, Greece and the School of Criminal Justice (Forensic Science) of the University of Lausanne (“Université de Lausanne”), Switzerland. More specifically, one (1) Ph.D. candidate gets to fulfill the Joint Ph.D. (“Cotutelle de thèse”): "Forensic Inference and Statistics around Dynamic Signatures Data". The doctoral candidate is being enrolled at both universities and, upon successful completion (Defense) of the Thesis, receives two distinct Ph.D. Degrees, one from each partner institution.

These Joint Ph.D. programs (“Cotutelle de thèse”) constitute pioneering, comprehensive doctoral study programs, coordinated by two University institutions (of two distinctive countries), leading to two distinct doctoral degrees, in two separate subjects of study. Moreover, they provide for equal division of the time spent by the researcher, in each of the Universities, with the working stays, among them, being jointly determined by the supervisors of the Thesis and the doctoral candidate (within the framework of their equitable distribution, between the two partner institutions).

The University of Lausanne offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral study programs (specialization in a specific field, or interdisciplinary studies), in a multitude of scientific disciplines (Genetics, Public Policy and Administration, Geography, Psychology, Actuarial Science). Additionally, the University offers course programs, designed for adults already integrated into the labor market, who wish to, either strengthen their knowledge in targeted disciplines of their own sphere of employment, or broaden their skills, with the intention to redefine their professional career. Being at the spearhead of Scientific Research, the University of Lausanne comprises more than 190 research units covering a wide range of research activities, in fields as diverse as genomics, aesthetics of cinema, environmental law and criminalistics. Particularly interested in encouraging a cross – disciplinary approach to research, UNIL’s (roughly) 3,000 researchers, including 580 professors, work, within its institutes, laboratories and libraries, towards the realization of national and international projects, thereby increasing the institution’s research capital. The Ph.D. candidate fulfilling the Joint Ph.D., between the Athens University of Economics and Business and the University of Lausanne, is being provided with a unique opportunity to consolidate their doctoral studies in Statistics and Forensic Science. Upon successful completion of the Public Defense of their Thesis, they are, therefore, being awarded two distinct Doctoral Diplomas, in two separate fields of study (Statistics and Forensic Science), for the conduction of the same Thesis and the degree of doctor (doctoral degree, within the framework of a "Cotutelle de thèse", between the Athens University of Economics and Business and the University of Lausanne):

Title of the Diploma of the Athens University of Economics and Business: Ph.D. in Statistics (Διδακτορικό Δίπλωμα στη Στατιστική)

Title of the Diploma of the University of Lausanne: Ph.D. in Forensic Science (Title in French: Doctorat ès Sciences en Science Forensique)

The public defense of the Thesis (“Colloquium”) will be held at the Athens University of Economics and Business, whereas the public presentation of the Thesis will be held at the University of Lausanne. The committee of examiners will be equally composed of science representatives designated from both universities (according to the regulations of both institutions).

The Thesis will be written and defended in English (since the language in which the Thesis is being produced has to comply with the applicable rules of the university at which the Thesis is being defended), whereas the summary (which is being defended during the Colloquium) will be written in French and Greek.

The two partner institutions will be exchanging all kinds of documents and information considered useful, for the settlement of the agreement for the implementation of the "Cotutelle de thèse", while simultaneously ensuring the protection of the topic of the Thesis and its publication, as per their specific regulations.

In particular, the double Doctoral Degree agreement, between the Athens University of Economics and Business and the University of Lausanne, consists of:

• Joint research, between the two partner institutions, revolving around innovative identification systems of forged signatures, via the application of Bayesian Artificial Intelligence models.

• Joint Doctoral Thesis composition, between the respective departments, of the two partner institutions. This action will also promote teachers’ and researchers’ collaboration, on a basic research level,

and is

• Fully funded, by the University of Lausanne.
