PART A – INTRODUCTION TO SPORTS ANALYTICS

Professor Ioannis Ntzoufras (Athens University of Economics and Business)

Learn how statistical models are used to predict game results, analyze score differences, and simulate league outcomes. We will also explore modern performance metrics such as expected goals (xG) and plus–minus models, along with topics like wearable-based analytics, injury prevention, and competitive balance in sports.

PART B – RATING, RANKING, AND TRACKING IN SPORTS
Professor Dimitris Karlis (Athens University of Economics and Business)

Discover how teams and athletes are objectively evaluated using methods such as the Bradley–Terry model and the Elo rating system. The session also introduces tracking technologies and advanced performance metrics. In hands-on exercises, you will work with real tracking data and implement rating models yourself.
