Professor of Information Systems, Department of Management, London School of Economics and Political Science.

Το σεμινάριο με θέμα “The coordination of information systems The temporal emergence of a Grid infrastructure for the Large Hadron Collider at CERN” θα λάβει χώρα την Δευτέρα 9 Μαρτίου 2015 και ώρα 13.00-15.00 στην αίθουσα Υ (Υπόγειο, Κεντρικό Κτίριο, Πατησίων 76).

I will present my recent paper* concerning the way in which collective groups at CERN coordinate a Grid infrastructure during its development and as it came into use. Here particle physicists and computer specialists altered the coordination of the Grid's workload through their actions.

Drawing upon theories from the social study of science and management I discuss how large scale digital infrastructures' form are influenced by different remembered pasts and imagined futures. I will introduce the case study, discuss the theory used, and describe the findings. I will then use this work to discuss the implications for other large-scale distributed digital infrastructures including those associated with cloud computing and smart-city initiatives drawing upon cases from my recent book, and on work I am undertaking on electric-mobility initiatives in Berlin.
