Under the auspices of the Erasmus+ Programme, the Department of Economics each year provides its students with the opportunity to spend part of their studies (Autumn Semester, Spring Semester, or Academic Year) in European Universities, with full recognition of their studies. The Department offers transparency in its curriculum and fair treatment to all its students by applying the rules of ECTS. It uses the ECTS documents, the Student's application form, the Learning agreement document and the Transcript of records ensuring academic recognition. The students participating in the Erasmus+ Programme receive full credit for all academic work successfully carried out at any of the ECTS partner institutions and they will be able to transfer these academic credits from one participating institution to another on the basis of prior agreement on the content of study programs abroad between students and the institutions involved. "Erasmus studies was the best experience I've had in my life. I decided to go to Istanbul because I wanted to practice my Turkish, to learn more about the country's culture and experience studying in Istanbul. Istanbul Technical University was beyond my expectations. The main campus, where my department was in, was so safe, organized, offered a lot of activities and the facilities and classrooms were great. The professors were also very kind, supportive and helpful and offering interesting but at the same time demanding lessons, with frequent assignments which were awakening the students' interest and motivating them to stay active in the course. Besides my studies, I had an amazing time in Istanbul. I made a lot of new friends, many of whom I met through the ESN community, explored the city and enjoyed the experience to the fullest. I would recommend to all students if they have the opportunity to participate in the Erasmus studies program." -Tzagaraki Fani, Istanbul Teknik Universitesi, Turkey (spring semester 2022-23) |
"For me the Erasmus program was and will remain one of the most pleasant and exciting experiences of my life! The different cultures, the new way of life, the friendships and the everyday life of the university exceeded all my expectations!! I feel incredibly lucky that I was able to take part in the program because it will remain in my memory forever. And what wouldn't I give to be able to return for one more day to the daily student life in Strasbourg! The excellent communication I had with the executives of our university made my entire integration process even smoother and easier." - Pappou Theodora–Anna, University of Strasbourg, France (fall semester 2023-24) "Having spent a month back in Greece already, I still can't believe that my Erasmus experience is over. It was truly one of the most remarkable experiences of my life and one of the best decisions I've ever made. I didn't know then, when it all started, that I would end up finding a new place to call home and new people to call my family. Granada will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will cherish these memories forever." - Siatopoulou Dimitra, University of Granada, Spain (fall semester 2023-24) "Celebrating the essence of discovery and cultural immersion, my semester abroad under the Erasmus+ program was nothing short of extraordinary and comes highly recommended. The city of Strasbourg, which is located at the crossroads of France and Germany, is captivating thanks to its beautiful architectural mix and kaleidoscope of cultural influences. The University of Strasbourg, organized and welcoming to all their exchange students, offered a variety of courses in French and English, creating a unique academic experience. Additionally, it places great importance on extracurricular activities, which students can sign up for at the beginning of the semester, ranging from athletics to activism. As for the process, the communication and support I received from AUEB were outstanding, with the Erasmus+ Office staff always available to assist and address any questions. Overall, I highly encourage others to undertake a semester abroad, as this experience was enriching and filled with experiences that left an indelible mark on my academic journey." - Andrianopoulou Eleni, University of Strasbourg, France (fall semester 2023-24) "I participated in the Erasmus program on the Spring semester of 2023 in Lisbon, Portugal. I can’t explain to you how happy I am to have participated and how much this changed my life in many different ways. Although I was scared at first, my curiosity and my desire to live in another country took the best of me and that’s how my journey begun. During my Erasmus I met other students from all over the world with whom I had so much fun. I also visited many places of unique beauty and lived according to the way of life of a culture much different from ours. At last, I was very lucky to study in Nova SBE which is one of the best universities for Economics and Business in Europe, something that enhanced my academic experience. This journey through Erasmus is something that I will never forget, and I strongly recommend it to everyone!!!" - Psychogios Marios-Loukas, Nova School of Business and Economics – Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal (spring semester 2022-23) "These few months were some of the best in my life. It was a nice experience living abroad and I combining my studies with fun. Barcelona is a well-structured city I fell in love with and I wish one day to go back. I made new friends all over the world and knew new civilisations. Erasmus is a good step if you are thinking to go abroad to work or to study because it gives you the opportunity to do this for a short time and see if you like it or not. The university was a little different from my country’s, but I tried my best too. Via Erasmus programme I went alone to a new country without knowing anyone and came back with many friends and full of experience. It was a beautiful trip that they will have in the bottom of my heart forever. Of course sometimes it was difficult as for the University, the home, the friends and generally the life that was a little different than what I was used to in Greece, but it made me stronger and more enthusiastic." - Ioannis Tsioulos, Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Spain (fall semester 2023-2024) |

Τhe fourth cycle of globalization, the cycle of ‘liberalization’, lasted from the early 1980s until the international financial crisis of 2008-2009. This article discusses the necessary reforms for an acceleration of Greece's sluggish recent and prospective economic growth.
The rapid recovery of the Greek economy from the deep recession of 2020 caused by the pandemic was a positive development. However, for the next few years all international organizations expect a significant slowdown in the rate of economic growth. In the medium term, the problem of strengthening the economic recovery by improving the international competitiveness of the Greek economy, as well as the problem of the more rapid de-escalation of the ratio of public debt to GDP, constitute the two biggest challenges of economic policy. This article discusses how this can be achieved.
The term globalization refers to the free inter-connectedness and inter-dependence of individuals, businesses, and countries around the world. Globalization is driven by developments in technology, communications, trade, the movement of people, and international politics. It is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon that has shaped the modern world in many ways. Historically, globalization has experienced four major cycles in the last two centuries. The first, the cycle of industrialization, emerged in the 19th century, after the end of the Napoleonic wars. The second cycle, that of protectionism, lasted from 1914 to 1945. The third round of globalization began hesitantly after World War II, within the framework of the Bretton Woods system of fixed exchange rates and managed trade liberalization. The “globalization slowdown”, or slowbalization, that followed the global financial crisis was characterized by a slower expansion of cross-border lending and trade, and it is a new cycle that continues to this day. In its two hundred years since independence, modern Greece has been affected by all four cycles of globalization. This paper discusses how and prospects for the future.
This article discusses the risks of policy complacency for the Greek economy and suggests the areas where reforms ought to be pursued. Fabio Antoniou
