Building Business and Society

MISSION

Striving for excellence in research and teaching, continuous advancement, and alignment with international standards, the School of Business of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) is committed to advancing and disseminating knowledge with global impact.

With core pillars in management, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and through research and strategic international collaborations, the School aims to contribute substantially to the development of leaders who are grounded in strong universal values and capable of creating value for individuals, businesses, and society at the local, national, and global levels.

THREE CORE PILLARS

1. Universal Human Values

  • Beyond knowledge and skills, the modern business leader must be distinguished by strong ethical principles and values, serving as a role model for the teams they lead
  • Drawing on Greek heritage — particularly the teachings of ancient Greek philosophers — such as:
    • Aristotle’s moral virtues: courage, temperance, justice, magnanimity, honor, truthfulness, friendship, among others
    • Plato’s virtues of leadership: prudence, boldness, action guided by knowledge and practical wisdom (sound judgment), foresight and decisiveness, temperance, self-restraint, self-discipline, and control of desires
  • The School highlights the timeless relevance of Greek thought in the field of management and contributes innovatively to this domain
  • It promotes a mindset that aims at the integrated creation of both economic and social value

2. Leadership at the International Level

  • Development of the competencies and skills required of contemporary business leaders
  • The concept of leadership features prominently in the mottos of many leading Schools of Business worldwide
  • Leveraging the expertise and long-standing tradition of AUEB
  • Interdisciplinary and international collaborations
  • A strong international orientation (best practices, international accreditations, etc.) aimed at fostering a global mindset and enhancing the School’s international recognition
  • Cultivating a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation

3.  Sustainability and Societal Impact

  • Contributes to the strengthening and long-term sustainability of businesses and society as a whole

VALUE CREATION

  • Expands the mission of businesses to achieve corporate objectives while meeting complex societal expectations, positively influencing the development and sustainability of both businesses and society
  • Strengthens the School’s social impact and visibility
  • Adopts a new School business model that effectively integrates economic and social value:
    • Strengthening and promoting the School’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives
    • Building robust partnerships with knowledge hubs and organizations providing comprehensive CSR frameworks (e.g., United Nations Global Compact, Global Compact)
    • Raising student awareness and engagement, reinforcing existing collaborations (e.g., AUEB Energy & Sustainability Club), and developing new initiatives (e.g., 50+20 Initiative)
