Seminar Series: Digital Work

Abstract

Advance Services is an international actor that operates in the field of art research by employing cutting-edge semantic based digital solutions. Throughout its journey various research infrastructure needs were materialized from ideas to real applications setting industrial light to academic darkness. During this presentation, in order to introduce the audience to the utilization of semantics, a brief explanation of the critical meanings of ontology and semantic networks will be provided. Furthermore, a real-world example of the PHAROS Art Research platform and its current digital features and capabilities will be presented. Finally, to gain a more comprehensive understanding of how semantic technologies work from start to finish, a project that is currently under development, related to Holocaust Archives, will be showcased. The aim of this short seminar-presentation is to showcase the unique features of semantics through the lens of a Greek deep-tech enterprise with expertise in the field of Art Research.

Nikos Minadakis

Nikos Minadakis (M) graduated from the Department of Computers Engineering and Informatics, University of Patras, and holds an MSc in Computer Science and Technology. He is a founding member and chief executive officer of Advance Services (advancesvs.com) since January 2018, a data services oriented enterprise with a portfolio including Harvard University, Getty Institute and Max Plank. He has expertise in e-research infrastructures design and development, conceptual modeling and semantic information systems implementation. He was a former technology supervisor and software engineer at the Foundation of Hellas and Technology (FORTH) from 2013 until 2019. He has participated in many National and European Projects, including LifeWatch Greece, iMarine, BlueBRIDGE and has co-authored more than 30 scientific publications.
