Art and Education: First Stimulus for the 2019-2020 Academic Year

In the winter semester of each academic year, within the framework of the Teacher Education Program of the Athens University of Economics and Business, strong stimuli about art in museums, galleries, theaters etc. are given, in relation to the innovative Art and Education action that will follow as workshop in the spring semester. The theme of the Art and Education action for the academic year 2019-2020 is "the student".
Thus, the first stimulus for this year was given to an old Stock Exchange office space, in the center of Athens, at 4 Sofokleous Street, NEON Gallery. Specifically, on Wednesday 30/10/19 a visit of the students to the NEON gallery was held, accompanied by the scientific director Dr. Vassiliki Brinia and the Fine Artists Mr. George Stamatakis, Mr. Christine Panagopoulou and Mr. George Dritsas. During the visit there was a guided tour of the photo exhibition of Panos Kokkinias as well as an open discussion on the exhibition's works and more generally on the importance of artistic expression in our lives.
The NEON art space presents a contemporary view of the city and its people through the photography exhibition of Panos Kokkinias. The "Stock Images" exhibition is the first photography exhibition of the "NEON Work in the City 2019" program, curated by Shoair Mavlian, Director of Photoworks. With the "Work in the City" program, NEON assigns an artist each year to create a work that is on public display for a specific period of time.
The "Stock Images" exhibition will present at different times, different views of the city embedded in its web. This contemporary portrait of Athens is presented in an abandoned office space, a place untouched since it was last used a decade ago by the Stock Exchange. This part of the city, the so-called "trading triangle", has been the economic and commercial "heart" of Athens for decades, having housed central bank offices, numerous small businesses and until a few years ago the Athens Stock Exchange.
