EuroSun 2024 – International Solar Energy Society (ISES)
Director of ReSEES Laboratory, Professor Phoebe Koundouri, was honored to speak at EuroSun2024 — the International Solar Energy Society (ISES) and the IEA Solar Heating and Cooling Programme’s prestigious International Conference on Sustainable and Solar Energy for Buildings and Industry. The event gathered over 200 participants from more than 40 countries, all dedicated to advancing solar energy solutions.
During a plenary roundtable discussion titled “The Role of Solar Towards a Green Transition,” Professor Koundouri emphasized the transformative potential of solar technologies in achieving the EU’s 2050 climate goals. The discussion highlighted essential financial strategies to facilitate this transition and underscored the critical importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria in making this vision a reality.
In her address, Professor Koundouri referenced the SDSN Global Climate Hub’s Energy Decarbonization Report, initially launched at COP28. This report outlines net-zero strategies tailored for each EU27 country, as well as the UK and the Balkans. Building on this foundation, the report will soon expand to include decarbonization pathways for the energy sectors in select countries across Africa and the Asia-Pacific region, with plans for its release at the upcoming UN Summit for the Future and COP29.
