Under the auspices of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy of Greece, the Goulandris Natural History Museum, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network Global Climate Hub, and the Alliance of Excellence for Research and Innovation on Aeiphoria (AE4RIA) are jointly organizing a workshop to explore pathways to accelerate the Greek Shipping Sector. Titled “Net-Zero and Climate-Resilient Shipping: Can Greece Lead the Race?” the event will take place on Friday, May 31st, 2024, from 18:00 to 20:30 EEST in Athens, Greece, at the Goulandris Natural History Museum.

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, Prof. Phoebe Koundouri was honored with the prestigious ‘Manolis Christofides Award’ for her innovative interdisciplinary research promoting sustainable interaction among nature, society, and the economy. Established by the Young Scientist Association of the Democratic Rally Cyprus Association, this award is the highest recognition of Cyprus’s scientific community and its achievements.

On April 8th, Prof. Phoebe Koundouri recognized with the award for balancing professional and personal life, especially in recognition of working mothers from her university, the Athens University of Economics and Business, during the Women’s Forum of AUEB celebration as part of the #ProjectEqualityAUEB campaign. Her mother, Chrysi Koundouri, received the award on her behalf due her absence from the country.

Prof. Koundouri joins the Advisory Science Panel for the Extreme Heat Resilience Alliance (EHRA) at the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Center. Over the next year, the Science Panel will guide the EHRA Leadership Team.

This edition will, for the first time, not only report on the current state of the hashtag#ocean, but detail the information, tools, and approaches that can be utilized by decision makers to ensure the hashtag#future sustainability, conservation, and restoration of our oceans.
