21st Summer Meeting in Risk Finance and Stochastics – RFS 2024
Professor Phoebe Koundouri was honored to deliver the keynote speech at the 21st Summer Meeting in Risk Finance and Stochastics (RFS2024), organized by the Athens University of Economics and Business (Departments of Accounting & Finance, Business Administration, Statistics, Applied Finance Laboratory, Stochastic Modelling and Applications Laboratory) in collaboration with the University of the Aegean (Departments of Statistics & Actuarial-Financial Mathematics, Financial & Management Engineering).
Her keynote address, titled “Science-Based Systems Sustainability Transition: If You Cannot Co-Design with Stakeholders, You Cannot Implement,” underscored the necessity of sustainability transitions to address climate change, economic development, ecological integrity, and social justice. Professor Koundouri highlighted that achieving sustainability requires a science-based, holistic approach to managing natural, economic, and social systems, with defined objectives and continuous monitoring. A co-designed, science-based approach that includes stakeholders at all governance levels and sectors is critical for creating and executing effective sustainability strategies.
Through AE4RIA — the Alliance of Excellence for Research and Innovation on Aephoria — and the SDSN Global Climate Hub, Professor Koundouri aims to support countries in co-creating pathways to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs), addressing pressing global challenges through resilient and adaptable systems.
