Αt the 14th International Conference of the Financial Engineering and Banking Society (FEBS), held at Athens University of Economics and Business, Prof. Phoebe Koundouri participated in an insightful roundtable discussion on “Building Sustainable Value: ESG at the Heart of Businesses,” under the auspices of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (Επιτροπή Κεφαλαιαγοράς).
The panel, moderated by Vassiliki Lazarakou, President of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission, included esteemed colleagues Tassos Anastasatos, Chief Economist of Eurobank Group, and Prof. Christos Gortsos from the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens. The discussion focused on the critical role of ESG in shaping sustainable business practices and fostering long-term value creation in the corporate sector. The panel also highlighted the importance of integrating environmental, social, and governance principles into corporate strategies to address emerging challenges and opportunities.
In her speech, Prof. Koundouri analyzed the integration of the CSRD Directive into Greek legislation and emphasized the principle of double materiality. She also introduced the AE4RIAmetrix, a set of tools and solutions developed by her team, which assist in downscaling the UN SDSN frameworks and quantifying the ESG and SDG footprint of companies in alignment with the CSRD. These decision-making tools support companies in developing their pathways toward sustainability, creating genuine value that extends beyond mere compliance.
