1st DOORS project Stakeholder Conference on ‘Black Sea Futures: Science, Prosperity, and People’

From Tuesday, April 23rd, until Wednesday, April 24^th, 2024, the 1st DOORS Stakeholder Conference on ‘Black Sea Futures: Science, Prosperity, and People’ took place in Bucharest, Romania. The aim of this conference was to engage stakeholders in the DOORS project co-design process, keep track of their evolving needs, and co-develop the lasting impact and legacy of DOORS. It included high-level sessions and interactive workshops. It attracted all Black Sea countries involved in DOORS, with country delegations attending as well as a range of target groups that are key for the success of the DOORS programmes (System of Systems, Blue Growth Accelerator, Knowledge Transfer, and Training). Ms. Lydia Papadaki, who participated as a trainee at “Workshop B: Blue Growth Accelerator” and co-moderated “Workshop E: DOORS System of System User Uptake,” represented the ATHENA RC team. During the conference, there was also a poster session with the title “Multi-Stakeholder Forums to Promote a Sustainable Blue Economy During Blue Transitions in the Black Sea,” co-authored by Dr. Ebun Akinsete, Mrs. Lydia Papadaki, and Prof. Phoebe Koundouri.

The H2020 DOORS project presented its key findings during the conference. The project brings together expertise and technology from 37 institutions from the Black Sea region and other European countries to address the human and climate change impacts on damaged ecosystems. The project’s goal is to develop optimal and open research support for the Black Sea, linking science, policy, and industry for critical Black Sea regeneration.
